You and your Geniusness
Well, I this is the best section I think I could post this in...
I was wondering how you change the "Waiting for other players" and "Game starting in...%"
I heard it had something to do with .mpq's or notepads but that's it.

Re: You and your Geniusness
Might be in the Advanced menu (gameplay constants or the other one which I forgot the name of)
Re: You and your Geniusness
... I was hoping someone who wasn't just guessing could have answered >.<
(I already know its not in constants or interface.)

Re: You and your Geniusness
yeh, i was just pointing out that you can change that stuff in the interface constants menu item.
by the way, if you are curious about any of the code in perSonas, please let me know. i am willing to share some should you guys want to learn or improve upon anything specific.

Re: You and your Geniusness
A lot of guys at wc3c just publicicize their entire code, but keep the map protected so people can learn openly without being able to rip them off.

Or you can use an MPQ editor and read the code! Much more educational.

Re: You and your Geniusness
yeah, except the code in perSonas is absolute crap.
part of the reason that the next release it taking so long is because the map is being rewritten from the ground up totally from scratch.
this decision was made for a lot of reasons, including:
- more stability, less bugs
- more maintainability
- quick to adapt to changes to a blizzard API (which will happen soon)
- faster to code new stuff in the future
Also got rid of major dependencies to any alterior code engines, like the caster system
The new code is actually pretty good. It features much better programming style, concision, and practices of actual software engineering, which makes for a great learning tool for anyone who is interested

I left out the part where most guys at wc3c also use vjass, and reading jass helper's output is not educational at all.
Re: You and your Geniusness
Reading DotA's code is very awesome and educational.

Re: You and your Geniusness
yeah i dont know about dota's code being all that awesome. it does teach you a thing or two, but, if i read the right script... that has bad hacks written all over it. that's not to say the old perSonas wasn't the same -- it very much was pretty ugly old and hacked up code as well
i do use vjass, especially taking advantage of some of the more advanced features of vjass in the new version of perSonas. i would be willing to open source it to a few select people, provided it's not used to blatantly steal/recreate a new breed of AoS

Re: You and your Geniusness
I think its great that you guys are willing to share your map with everyone, however, I'm not sure how useful it will be to people who haven't learned jass let (like me) >.<

Re: You and your Geniusness
don't bother learning jass unless you really want to get into (WC3) specific programming.
jass is a horribly constricted scripting language that promotes hacking/bad style/form. it's also NOT very user friendly if you are not used to any programming principles at all.
however, if you do want to learn.. the best ways to learn are:
- write simple GUI triggers
- convert them into JASS
- study/analyze them
- modify the same GUI trigger
- see what changed in the JASS version
- experiment and read tutorials online
that will go a long way into learning at least the basics (i wouldnt worry about leaks and all that stuff at your current level)
